Country Road Summer 2009 Collection
2009-06-21
Country Road takes a relaxed approach to spring summer 2009 with a contemporary collection inspired by classic tailoring. Soft layering and fluid fabrics in muted tones of almond, café latte, grey, black and ink are key while brighter hues of calypso pink, apricot and ultra blue add highlight pops of colour. Detail and sculpture stand out this season with pleating and folding creating the perfect silhouette. With a nod to vintage, the collection features textured fabrics with shorter, fuller skirts, flat bow detailing in dresses and shirting, pretty silky twills and natural fabrics. This is combined with deconstructed cotton trench coats, cropped cotton bomber jackets, long-line cardigans, paper-bag waist pants and one shoulder jersey dresses. A subtle tribute to paired-back 80’s styling is evident with cigar cut, pleated front and harem pants mixed with silk waiter’s jackets. Accessories reflect a tough 80’s attitude with hardware and zipper detail on bags and sexy platform heels making a statement this season. More

World Sight Day: Time to Open Your Eyes to UV Protection
2008-10-09
With World Sight Day on the 9th of October it’s important to remember just how vital the eyes are in our daily lives. Summer is just around the corner and without a doubt South Africans will be encouraged to lather themselves in sunscreen – protecting their skin from UV rays – not realising that their eyes are just as vulnerable to harmful UV rays. In a recent survey commissioned by the Transitions Healthy Sight for Life Fund it was found that eighty-five percent of South Africans don’t think that damage to the eyes is one of the most harmful effects of extended exposure to the sun. Transitions Optical conducted this research – into important topics such as nutrition, UV exposure, eye fatigue and glare – with the aim of gleaning a greater understanding of South Africans’ eye habits. “We suspected the need to raise the awareness of healthy sight amongst the South African public. The research results confirm that there is indeed an alarming lack of knowledge and correct behaviour regarding eye health in the country,” states Richard Pearson, Country Manager, Transitions Optical South Africa.
